Caring For Your Hair For Hair Loss Prevention

Losing your hair is a delicate topic amongst many men and women and few feel as if they have any control over the issue. There are many different factors that cause this in individuals, some of the most common being pregnancy, stress, thyroid disease, not enough protein or iron in the diet, and various types of medication, including birth control. If you are concerned about losing your hair or are showing signs already, the good news is that there are hair loss prevention tips that can help reduce your risk.

Since hair loss can be linked with low vitamin deficiencies, such as protein or iron, it's important to eat a diet that's nutritionally balanced. Use the Food Pyramid for guides, but if you're uncertain that you're not getting all the things you need, talk to your doctor about taking vitamin supplements.

Another way of prevention method is by taking care of your hair in the proper way. Too often, people are convinced that their hair will grow back, no matter how much styling and coloring is done. However, once the hair is completely damaged, it's possible that it may be gone forever. To avoid this, handle your hair gently. Letting it air dry is best, but if you cannot do this, gently pat it dry in a towel. Steer clear of tight hairstyles, such as ponytails and braids.

Hair loss prevention can also be supported by staying stress-free. While this may be hard to achieve, it's important to take the time to relieve and cope with stress. Too much stress in your life negatively affects the body, with one of the effects being hair loss. Stress can also make it more likely that you'll pull and twist on your hair and become a contributing factors.

Finally, it's important to avoid medications that are known to cause hair loss. Some of the most common include birth control pills, acne medications, blood thinners, and cancer treatment medications. Of course not all of these medications can be avoided under certain situations, but if possible, try to steer clear of them. If you do begin losing your hair, opt for an over-the-counter hair loss kit that promotes hair growth and reduces the risk for hair loss.
