Are Short Hair Cuts and Styles an Option For You?

If you've had long hair for the majority of your life or even if it's just been for the past few years, you may have a big fear about cutting your hair. It's been a long process getting it to this length and you may not like your new short haircut. What then? Well, there's not much more you can do than sit back and wait for it to grow out. But, the truth is, if you're researching what you want, as you are now, you probably will end up very happy with the results.

In addition to be fun, fresh and even flirty, short hair is also a lot easier to take care of each day. Some short hairstyles just required a bit of gel a quick tease with your fingers and you're off for the day. Others may take a bit more work, but rarely will you be spending the time you do now on your long hair. Short hair is often healthier as well because it requires less heat under a blow dryer or pinched in a curling iron. It also tangles a lot less which means fewer broken ends that will eventually split.

One of the easiest short haircuts to take care of is the layered bob cut. While most of the work is accomplished with a great cut, using some color to highlight the layers will add some complexity to the look. Once you have the initial work down, you can typically wash and go with this cut. That makes it one of the most popular for busy women on the go.

If your lifestyle is a little edgier or just plain fun you may want to consider the spiked look. This is one of the shortest styles, but that also makes it one of the easiest to take care of each day. Most of the time you're going to cut the bottom short and leave the top layers longer so you can make them into fun spikes. Don't get me wrong, these aren't the spikes you see punk rockers from the 80's wearing. These are more wispy and fun. Once you have the cut down, it's a simple matter of putting in a little get or spiking glue in the morning.

If you've got naturally curly hair, you have a wonderful option with a curly layered cut. This will dramatically cut down on the frustrations you may be having with your hair in its longer state. If you've got straight hair, this is a viable option for you as well.

There's also the fun and sassy look of a short cut with flipped out ends. This screams, "I'm fun and positive." A little more serious look but extremely elegant is a cut that's short in the back and a considerably longer in the front.

Once you decide to take the risk and cut your hair, you're going to realize there are so many options available to you you'll have fun deciding where you'll go next. It's certainly worth the risk if you have even a slight inclining to change your hair

Hair Today, Hair Tommorow - Long Hair Fast

Foundational tips

Eat a nutritious diet- as if you needed another reason to. A well balanced diet affets the entire body including your hair. Zinc, Iron and B vitamins are great starters for optimal hair growth

Drink up - water that is. Divide your weight in pounds by 2, the result is the amount of ounces of water you should drink daily. More on water here.

Take a mulit-vitamin

Try an MSM tablet - MSM is great for the skin, nails and hair. It helps with joint pain, fatigue and diabetes. You really can't go wrong.

Lesser known hair tips

Trim, trim, trim! - (.5' and under) every 8 weeks for coloured, relaxed and permed hair or if you are prone to splits. You can go up to 4 months without a trim if you have virgin hair.

Heat is you hair's enemy - Especially for chemically processed hair. Give you hair a break and limit heat to once a week or better yet for special occasions

Nights in red satin - Cotton pillowcases dry the hair out leading to splits and tangles. Do your hair a favour and sleep on satin pillowcases. It will make a huge difference

Protein - protein strengthens you hair. Get one done once a month either at the salon or at home. V05 makes a great at home treatment. A must for damaged hair.

Moisture - to all my curly girls we need it more than most. Every week slather on conditioner on dry hair and put on a shower cap. Wash it out after a couple hours for moisture rich curls.

Be gentle - tight ponies, braids and extensions wreak havoc on you hair and stress your scalp. If not done properly it can lead to baldness and thinning. Just don't!

Rock and Roll - relaxed ladies I'm talking to you. Relaxers are the harshest of all chemical treatments so don't add insult to injury and use lots of heat. Learn to wet set your hair. It will give you style without the damage. Check this rollersetting tutorial for starters.

Types of Hair - Asian Hair

No two persons have the exact hair. The same way different races have different skin color, it's the same way different ethnic groups have different types of tresses. There are three main types depending on ethnic group - Asian, Afro-Caribbean and Caucasian - all types having their own unique attributes. No matter how different the types are, they comprised of the same parts. These are the cuticle, cortex, medulla and a very important protein called keratin which is the chief part of all. What determines the shape of your tresses is the shape of each follicle. Asian hair grows from round follicles giving it a bone straight appearance. It has very thick cuticles made up of approximately ten layers while other types have around five.

Asian hair type is the most dominant in the entire universe. It usually has smaller thickness than the other types but it grows faster than the rest by far pertaining to swiftness of growth. The quantity of hair on the head in Asians is small but because of the thickness it appears to be full. It has been found that this type reacts more quickly to care products, specifically, hair loss products. It is considered that this has to do with the natural speed of growth that this type has. It is also stronger than other types and more able to recuperate from damages and it also has the longest cycle of growth which lasts up to nine years. Formerly, this type was the least susceptible but lately Asians have been adopting the practices of the western world. These habits can result in very thin hair as it is not very crowded.

Each type calls for different care procedures and products to fulfill the requirements of that special type. Asian hair absorbs moisture very fast and keeps that moisture. In spite of this, it may undergo extra dryness. This is because it tends to be very long and as a result moisture is lost along the long shaft. Hair loss in Asians is little since few hairs are lost daily. Balding is also a rare occurrence in Asians. This type is generally shiny because of the presence of a medulla containing dark pigment which explains the shininess and high moisture. Asians usually have oily scalp which demands their mane to be washed frequently to avoid a dirty look.

Because Asian hair is long, straight, strong and typically free from chemical impairment it is the ideal type to utilize for extensions. As a result, persons turn to Asian countries for human tresses to be used in wig making and extensions.

This type requires the use of products that are appropriate for that specific kind. Shampoos that have a pH of 5 to 5.5 are ideal; anything over that pH would be too harsh. Individuals of Asian lineage must avoid using products like mineral oil.

Asian styles are usually different. They usually look sleek, smooth and silky. They are also generally extremely straight and flowing. Stylists agree that it is harder to curl and colour when compared to other types. Digital hot perm machines are helpful in styling because they can be set to provide the appropriate heat and chemical solution for any type. Asian hair is dark and therefore adding highlights to it can truly highlight the appearance of the tresses. Double-sided coloring is a great way to augment this type. The underside is colored in a dark brown shade and a lighter shade is dyed on top. This gives a shimmering effect when the hairs rub against each other.

General Hair Care Tips - Healthier Hair & Less Hair Loss Guaranteed

First of all you need to keep your hair always as clean as possible, use shampoo two or three times per week on regular basis, massaging your hair and scalp with oil (natural hair oils only) is recommended before you start washing your hair with shampoo.

Dandruff is very bad for your hair, it weakens the hair terribly and it could even cause it to fall down, not mentioning it's bad look of course, so you need to get rid of it by using special Anti-Dandruff shampoos, but in case shampoos didn't work to wash away that annoying dandruff then you better get a specialist to check it for you.

If you are losing too much hair while showering then brushing your hair before you take your shower might help reducing the amount of the falling hair, also do not rinse your hair with hot water, use warm water instead to rinse your hair and do not use hot air to dry it (your hair), because rinsing with hot water and drying with hot air increases the chance of losing hair exponentially, and of course you don't want that to happen.

Head lice can not be allowed to spread in your hair if you want to have a healthy hair, so if you discover that your scalp has been infected start using Anti-Lice shampoos and medicines (products of natural origins of course) at once and if you couldn't get rid of lice by using off the shelf products then you better contact a specialist.

Do not use any artificially (not of natural origins) made hair conditioners, chemicals could really hurt your hair and scalp and may cause your hail to fall in the long run so chemical free products are definitely recommended, try to avoid artificial chemical conditioners and use natural hair conditioners instead such as coconut milk, avocado oil, coconut oil, aloe vera oil, sweet almond oil and even yogurt, all this natural stuff can really help you keep your hair over your head, they were proven to reduce hair loss greatly, so yeah mother nature won't ever let you down even on this.

Hair Loss - Hair Health

The hair on your head is dead protein. The live part of hair lies below the scalp. There are parts of the hair on your head that may be several years old. So although hair is resilient, it can suffer wear and damage from many years of brushing, combing, styling, the environment, etc. It's worthwhile to handle and manipulate hair as little as you can get away with to minimize the harm done from too much of it.

Hair is not made healthier or shinier or more lustrous by the friction and tugging that occurs as a result of combing , brushing and styling. And while it's important for a number of reasons to keep hair clean - washing it too much can strip it of scalps oils. and leave it dry and prone to damage. A moderate regimen of care and conditioning can help to ensure that your hair is as healthy as it can be.

There are lots of folks who have experienced the heartbreak and anxiety of hair loss due the to constant stressing of their hair. This stress can be caused by consistent pulling and tugging of hair, overly tight braids, ponytails, certain hairstyles, the over use of harsh chemicals, or too many applications of hot combs or blow dryers. The abuse of any of these hair treatments can result in weakening of the hair and excess shedding.

As the hair is part of the body, it responds positively to the overall health and well being of the rest of the body. And while healthy living, exercise, adequate nutrition and a low-stress lifestyle cannot reverse pattern baldness; you can be sure that it will in no way contribute to it, or be the cause of any atypical hair loss.

Getting regular exercise is important for whole body function, not just for hair. It's not necessary (or even desirable, really) to spend hours working out or running to keep the body functioning near its optimal level. A reasonable exercise program undertaken a few times a week is really all you need to counter balance the effects of an otherwise sedentary life and questionable nutrition.

And crash or extreme diets do nothing to add to hair health. A well-balanced and healthy diet with recommended amounts of fresh fruits and vegetables is best. And because hair is protein, it is important to eat adequate amounts of it to maintain hair health. For those who are vegetarians, there may be an increased level of diligence needed to ensure sufficient protein is taken in.

There have been studies that link some hair loss problems to some kinds of vitamin deficiencies. Eating a healthy diet can supply much of what's needed in vitamins and minerals. If you want to be sure that all needed nutrients for healthy hair are taken in then supplements can supply them. Amino acids, vitamin A and B vitamins are important, as are some minerals such as magnesium, sulfur and zinc.

Just as important for the health of your hair as nutrition and exercise is getting enough rest and sleep. Again, it is vital to the health of your entire body that it be given the opportunity to repair itself during sleep - and it's equally vital for healthy hair. If you're tired all the time and having unusual hair difficulties: there may be a connection between the two.

And if you are under a high level of stress, it can affect your hair as well. In fact, some people actually experience hair loss due a high amount of stress to deal with. If this is a problem for you and you are not able to get away from the stress-producing thing, then try to incorporate some stress relieving activity in your life. Meditation is one of the best ways to minimize stress. Developing the ability to keep your mind free from unwanted thoughts, and to control it's tendency to wander to the future and the past via imagination and memory, can do wonders for one's peace of mind and stress reduction.

Shampoo For Oily Hair - Oily Hair Shampoo For Deep Cleaning and Body

If you're one of the millions who suffer from oily hair, a clarifying, deep-cleaning shampoo may be your answer. Oily hair is often the result of over-active sebaceous glands. Sebaceous glands secrete sebum - hair oil - and are associated with all follicle pores. Generally, sebum helps the follicle shaft maintain pliability and elasticity making the hair smoother. Sebum helps to protect the hair and encourages delivery of nutrients to the scalp and root. It not only provides protection, but can improve shine and manageability.

Over-active sebaceous glands are just that - producing too much oil. The result can be an accumulation of excess oil that can trap dirt, clog pores and act with yeast to cause fungus. And though oil secretion may be facilitated by other issues - heat and humidity, out-of-control sebaceous glands are suspect number one. Excess oil can matte hair and give an unclean, unwashed appearance. In more severe cases, oil can lead to scalp acne or dermatitis. Flaking can also occur as product build-up clings to oil and dirt. It is not uncommon that the flaking is confused with dandruff.

To help address excess oil and resulting symptoms, consider using a shampoo for oily hair, or at least one formulated to regulate sebum. The most effective oily hair shampoos use Zinc or Zinc PCA. Zinc helps control sebaceous glands decreasing oil production. Using a shampoo with mild surfactants helps also.

If your scalp is sensitive, irritation or inflammation can arise and promote oily hair. Gentle surfactants - using sodium laureth sulfate - are recommended to avoid compounding scalp problems. Also, products that use herbal or botanical extracts and paraben-free preservatives have been shown to improve scalp health and reduce the onset of oily hair. Fenugreek, Ivy and Burdock have become increasing popular for their ability to gently deep clean and are common in many natural-based clarifying shampoos.

As an alternative, using a mint extract based shampoo works well also, and they generally smell great and leave your scalp and hair revived and refreshed. Mint and peppermint are often used as with their extract, menthol. Mint extracts have anti-bacterial properties and help to naturally clean and invigorate. That act similarly to Zinc at helping to control oil production and are used commonly in shampoo for oily hair.

In terms of a hair care regimen, using an oily hair shampoo is recommended daily. Since its purpose is to deep clean, you may find that you need to alternate with a shampoo that offers more body, volume and moisture.

To most effectively combat excess oil production use a formulated shampoo for oily hair. Avoid over-use of styling aids to avoid build-up and wash your hair regularly. With a consistent hair care regimen, you'll lose that oily, greasy hair and regain body and volume.
